Australia is deceptively large! Knowing a place to live that suits you AND your budget is crucial. The best way to choose where to move is by thinking about what kind of lifestyle you want and need for yourself — whether it be family-friendly or beachy vibes.

You’ll also need to think about the cost: What’s your monthly rent going to be? How much will utilities cost per month? Can I buy groceries near my apartment? If not, how much time do I spend each day on public transportation to eat/shop/keep up with daily necessities like laundry?

The best place to live in Australia for you will depend on whether you want a city, the beach, or something else.

To help you, here is a list of the best places to live in Australia.

Sydney: The best place for people on a budget! It’s a fantastic city with beautiful beaches and great weather, but it’s also expensive.

Melbourne: This is one of the world’s most livable cities according to Monocle magazine, so if that doesn’t assure you, then nothing will! You’ll be spoilt for decisions when it comes to delicious food or even just finding your next favorite coffee shop — there are over 400 cafes in Yarraville alone!

Hobart: Tasmania’s capital has seen some incredible growth recently as more and more people discover what this little gem has to offer. It’s a different pace of life with some awe-inspiring scenery, and best of all, it’s still cheaper than Sydney or Melbourne!

Perth: Western Australia is one of the best places in the world to live if you want an outdoor lifestyle. You can explore beautiful beaches every day for kilometers and then hop back into town for dinner — without having to drive anywhere!

Byron Bay: This place became famous as “Australia’s hippie capital,” but that reputation has been tarnished over the years by too many tourists spoiling this lovely little spot. Even though it might be crowded at times, there are few better experiences in Australian living (or traveling) than sitting on your porch watching the vast winter waves crash onto the shore.

Adelaide: The best city for digital nomads in Australia! It’s been dubbed “the most livable city” by the Economist Intelligence Unit, and it’s not hard to see why — there are plenty of cafes, bars, and restaurants plus a thriving arts scene.

Canberra: This is one of the best places to live in Australia if you’re looking for somewhere with some culture AND lots of nature close at hand — perfect for those who want their work balanced with something more relaxing. This may be the best place to live in Australia!

Australia has so many amazing cities, towns, and regions that it’s impossible to decide which would be best, but hopefully, our list will help you narrow down your search.
